Το 5ο ΕΠΑΛ Θεσσαλονίκης, είναι ένα εσπερινό σχολείο το οποίο στεγάζεται στο Σχολικό Συγκρότημα "Μοναστηρίου 169-171", στην Θεσσαλονίκη.
Οι μαθητές είναι στην πλειοψηφία τους ενήλικες, άνεργοι, εργαζόμενοι, άτομα που απειλούνται με αποκλεισμό από την αγορά εργασίας, προέρχονται από αστικές και κυρίως αγροτικές περιοχές, έχουν διαφορετικό κοινωνικό προφίλ και προέλευση και αποτελούν παλαιότερες σχολικές διαρροές που επιστρέφουν στην εκπαίδευση. Στο σχολείο εγγράφονται επίσης απόφοιτοι Γενικού Λυκείου, ΤΕΙ και ΑΕΙ προκειμένου να αποκτήσουν πτυχίο ειδικότητας. Οι παραπάνω κατηγορίες μαθητών φοιτούν για να αποκτήσουν από την τεχνική επαγγελματική εκπαίδευση τη δυνατότητα να ενσωματωθούν γρήγορα στην αγορά και την παραγωγική διαδικασία αποκτώντας πτυχίο ειδικότητας. Πρωταρχικός ρόλος του σχολείου είναι να παρέχει στους μαθητές του ίσες ευκαιρίες παρά το διαφορετικό υπόβαθρο, τη διαφορετική προέλευση, τα διαφορετικά χαρακτηριστικά, να τους βοηθήσει στην πορεία για επαγγελματική και κοινωνική ανάπτυξη, μέσα από πλήθος θεωρητικών και εργαστηριακών μαθημάτων κάθε ειδικότητας δίνοντας εφόδια και απαραίτητες γνώσεις. Στόχος του σχολείου είναι η: αρτιότερη οργάνωση, λειτουργία της καθημερινής εκπαιδευτικής διαδικασίας, η παροχή προς τους μαθητές δυνατοτήτων για να καλλιεργήσουν ατομικές δεξιότητες-ικανότητες, να αναδείξουν στοιχεία της προσωπικότητας τους, να αναπτύξουν δεξιότητες επικοινωνίας και μάθησης, να βελτιώσουν την αυτοεκτίμησή τους, να αποκτήσουν τα εφόδια ώστε να ανταποκριθούν στις απαιτήσεις της αγοράς εργασίας, η καλλιέργεια της πολιτιστικής κουλτούρας, η προαγωγή της κοινωνικής ευαισθητοποίησης και του εθελοντισμού.
